The Administrative group are tasked with organising and maintaining CENA’s governance manual and other administrative documents. This also includes accurate minute taking and storage as required by ASIC.

Aims and objectives
To provide accurate record keeping on behalf of CENA, to maintain ASIC requirements and provide a historical record of CENA activity.

The Terms of Reference for this group are currently being developed.

Achievements
Currently the administrative committee, in conjunction with the board are working on updating the CENA governance manual. A subgroup is also working on a review of the CENA constitution.

Conference

The conference organising committee, in conjunction with our contracted conference organiser Conference Design, is responsible for planning and implementing the annual CENA conference. This committee is made up of CENA members from the State in which the conference will be held and is usually formed at least 18 months before the intended conference date.

Aims and objectives
The conference organising committee, in conjunction with our contracted conference organiser Conference Design, is responsible for planning and implementing the annual CENA conference. This committee is made up of CENA members from the State in which the conference will be held and is usually formed at least 18 months before the intended conference date. The organising committee is responsible for but not limited to things such as:

  • Monitoring and reporting the conference budget
  • Liaising with conference organiser to monitor planning progress
  • Establishing and supervising the scientific committee
  • Selection of conference theme and keynote speakers (in collaboration with Scientific Committee)
  • Venue selection and social program

Achievements
The College has hosted an annual International Conference for Emergency Nurses since 2005, each of which has been a great success. The quality of papers continues to improve and the conference is increasingly attracting international and regular local presenters and attendees. Each conference organising committee strives to produce a high quality program which also includes fun social events and is reasonably priced.

National Education Committee

Aims and objectives
The education committee are responsible for addressing CENAs aim to provide education for emergency nurses. This group attempt to bring evidence based education programs and resources to the members. The Committee are constantly working on ways to improve access to education for all members using technology. CENA TNP Steering Committee

The CENA Trauma Nursing Program (CENA TNP) Steering Committee was formed, following a call for nominations, in June 2011 and held its first meeting on the 12th July 2011. This committee will provide governance for future development for the CENA TNP and report directly to the CENA Board of Directors.

Aims and objectives
The major purpose of the committee is to coordinate and direct the development of the CENA TNP; support the role of the Coordinator; provide administrative, financial and profession governance for CENA TNP; lead regular reviews of the CENA TNP; lead the curriculum design development; review the assessment aspects of the program, overall review of the program contents in line with the assessment review, development of a curriculum design document, and then further marketing of the program. The CENA Steering Committee and the CENA Board of Directors acknowledges the substantial contribution of Jane Mateer over a number of years, as the previous Coordinator and welcomes Brooke Alexander in her appointment as the new Coordinator from 1st June 2011.

Marketing

The marketing committee was established to seek opportunities to maintain and recruit CENA membership in order to provide the financial platform required to meet CENA’s organisational aims. The committee is aiming to identify opportunities for the college that promote the recruitment and retention of membership and to promote the image of the college.

Professional Standards

The purpose of the Professional Standards Committee is to establish and promulgate professional standards for emergency nursing practice

Purpose

The purpose of the Professional Standards Committee is to establish and promulgate professional standards for emergency nursing practice.

Functions

The functions of the Committee shall include, but are not limited to; the following:

To determine, develop, maintain and promulgate the professional standards relating for emergency nursing across Australasia.

To maintain existing CENA professional standards, this will include review at pre-determined intervals or where new evidence necessitates changes to professional practice standards.

To ensure that the practice standards of the College are founded on the best available evidence and expert opinion.

To establish working parties and subcommittees, which includes co-opting expert advice, for the purpose of undertaking committee work

Establish and maintain collegial links with other relevant professional committees, working parties and professional organizations where these links serve to inform the work of the Committee

Frequency and Duration of Meetings

Meetings shall be held bimonthly throughout the year. Meetings will be conducted by teleconference or email with an annual face to face meeting scheduled to coincide with CENA International Conference. A special or extraordinary meeting may be called by:

  • Agreement of half the committee members;
  • At the request of the National Board.

Research Sub Committee

The focus of the research committee is to coordinate and direct research within the CENA in accordance with national guidelines. The committee aims to support quality research which is relevant to emergency nursing by collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams, promoting evidence based practice and incorporating findings into clinical practice and acting as a conduit for research enquiries from members or outside groups to facilitate research appropriate to goals and objectives of CENA.

CENA is supportive of research that improves the evidence base for emergency nurses and will support research projects in a number of ways. One example is to send invitations to participate in studies to our membership. There is a rigorous process to ensure that our members only receive invitations from studies that are considered to be of interest to emergency nurses and are methodologically and ethically sound.
